This is the second volume to appear in the nine-volume series, first launched by Brill in 2003 as six volumes and updated in 2020. The project's aim is to bring together interdisciplinary and transhistorical scholarly papers on Muslim women in both Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority countries. The articles in volume 1 (CH, May'21, 58-2450) focused primarily on family, law, and religion as they impact gender roles and kinship dynamics. Volume 2 encompasses 30 previously published articles grouped into sections dealing with domestic violence, reproductive health, sexualities, and funerary practices. The volume also includes two articles on women and sports in Turkey. The contributors hail from all over the world, and their work is based on empirical research in countries spanning Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Egypt, among others. Documenting the changing perceptions and practices relating to Muslim women and situating the ongoing transformations in a wider theoretical and political context, this is an invaluable contribution to understanding the dynamics of gender, religion, and culture in Islamic societies.Summing Up: Highly recommended. Advanced undergraduates through faculty.
